MPS offers a large portfolio of Power Management buck/stepdown converters, boost/step-up converters, buck/boost converters, and flyback converters. By combining our power-optimized IC process, packaging technology, monolithic design and system expertise, MPS provides high-efficiency, small-sized (CSP/QFN/BGA/LGA) management products with integrated low Rds(on) MOSFETs, fast transient response, low ripple, low noise, low Iq, and low EMI. These products are easy to use with either built-in trim options for adjustability or software (digital) programmability via I2C/PmBUs with OTP/MTP for many key features, such as current limits, temperature, output current, output voltages supporting AVS/DVS, switching frequency, power good, soft start, external sync, operation mode (PFM/PWM, FCCM), and protection modes (latch-off, hiccup) and protection thresholds (OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP).
Our buck converter family offers input ranges from 2V to 100V and output current up to 30A. With a wide input voltage range, MPS products are used in all kinds of applications and support a variety of bus voltages: 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 24V, 36V, 60V, and 100V. MPS’ boost and buck/boost converter family offers input ranges from 0.6V to 36V, output ranges from 1.8V to 55V, and switch current limit up to 22A.
MPS’ PMIC and multi-output product family include integrated Buck, Boost, Buck/Boost, Efuse, load switch, and Linear regulators. Our PMIC solutions support applications with 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, and higher voltages. Utilizing a monolithic approach, many IC blocks and functions are integrated to support many rails in a system, such as those with FPGAs, Infotainment, SSDs, Access Points, DSL, Set-top boxes, DIMMs, and Whitegoods.
MPS PMICs make it easy to manage multiple power rails with integrated system power sequencing and digital programming capabilities via I2C interface and PmBUS as well as OTP/MTP memory. During development, systems requirements may change, and therefore with starter development/evaluation kits (EVKT/PKTs) from MPS, customers can easily use MPS products to evaluate, make changes to programming, and finalize specs in a timely manner. Our PMICs also support multi-phase (parallel) capability to allow design scalability and minimize the number of BOM components.
MPS’ Power over Ethernet (PoE) family offers an extensive portfolio providing an end-to-end solution for home, office, industrial and traffic monitoring systems up to 40W+ thanks to our industry leading power density. Many of our products integrate the PoE interface device as well as a power converter or controller into one package to support IEEE 802.3af/at and higher power applications.
We also offer stand-alone PoE interface devices as well as standalone power converters/controllers. MPS’s industry leading isolated Primary-Side Regulated (PSR) flyback converters eliminate the need for opto couplers, which reduce size and cost. Our proprietary BCD process, innovative design, and packaging technology make our parts easy to use. Programmable soft start, frequency, UVLO, EN hysteresis make customization easy. With integrated pulse skipping mode at light load, MPS’s PoE parts offer high efficiency during all power delivery levels. This also means that our parts generate less heat making the thermal design easy and effortless. MPS’ solutions offer the power and flexibility to meet many PoE standards for access points, VoIP phones, reverse power feeding, security cameras, PoE switch, and modem applications.
MPS Power Modules offer superior performance and size advantages when compared to other industry leading solution. The monolithic design allows for faster switching frequency, which leads to ultra fast transient response and size reduction. Our high efficiency and advanced packaging make thermal design easy.
Monolithic Power Systems Controller family offers an extensive portfolio of controller solutions. MPS offers controllers for Buck, Boost and Buck/Boost and up to 6 phases. With our digital COT (constant on time) control and fast transient response, we offer superior efficiency. Our controllers have industry leading performance and flexibility with I2C and PmBUs interface, making it easier to integrate any MPS controller into a design.
Monolithic Power Systems leads the market with its family of all-in-one smart USB power supplies. By integrating switching regulator, current limit switch, auto protocol detection, and other features, such as frequency spread spectrum, frequency dithering, load shedding, battery short/CC/DD line protection, low drop-out mode, and line drop compensation, users can simplify their USB power design while optimizing performance and solution size.
Supporting USB type A, USB type C, USB Power Delivery (PD), legacy charging protocols BC1.2 (CDP/DCP), 1.2V/1.2V mode, divider mode, and Qualcomm quick charge (QC), MPS solutions can be used for single port, dual port, or multi-port designs in Consumer and Automotive Applications, including charging ports, remote ports, hubs, remote hub, remote clusters, and after-market USB chargers. For non-PD applications, our parts support up to 15W (5V/3A) per port allowing mobile devices to be charged very quickly. For PD applications up to 100W, our solutions with buck/boost converters and controllers operate with wide input voltage (4V -40V) and digital programming capability to program frequency, slew rate, current limit within 50mA resolution and output voltage within 10mV resolution to meet USP PD 3.0 and PPS specs.
Today’s datacenters use an average of 3kW to 5kW per rack to power server, storage, and networking racks. Most are designed to power basic CPUs to operate at high levels of efficiency. Hence, the traditional 12V power architecture has been widely accepted and implemented.
As the demand for cloud computing, AI applications, and high-power processors and accelerators grows, datacenters are evolving to accommodate new high-power requirements. For example, an early AI market supercomputer required 3200W for the entire power system. The second generation’s power demand increased threefold, resulting in 10kW for the entire power system. Since the power lost in distributing high current increases by the square of the current (I2R), more copper must be used in the backplane or wiring harness to control the distribution losses. Ultimately, this limits the power delivery of the system.
In order to meet the industry’s new power requirements, MPS has developed a new power architecture, using a 48V distribution voltage that is capable of a 16x reduction in power distribution losses, in addition to presenting a 48V datacenter solution to address new design challenges.
MPS Display Power and Control backlight drivers provide a wide range of display power options for all your lighting display needs. With superior LED current regulation you can be confident in high efficiency, high accuracy, deep dimming, audible noise elimination, and increased protections.
